Should i fight my ticket?

I got a ticket this morning for "tailgating". Traffic slows due to a highway patrol being on the free way, in the process i end up closer to the guy in front of me. I am pulled over and ordered to appear in court. at the time i was driving a little bit closer to the person in front of me than perhaps I normally do, but wasn't in my opinion (i realize my opinion doest hold up in court or in an accident had there been one) dangerously close to anyone. it felt like he was looking for someone to give a ticket to. if i am in the wrong i will be wrong, if not though i dont want to pay for a ticket i didn't deserve. I'm not looking to bash police or be bashed myself, just want some unbiased opinions on the probability of resisting this ticket being successful in court.
