Need B Guitar help for heavy band with breakdowns?

Hi now I have not been playing b very long so im starting to take it more seriously and I play in a band that has post- breakdowns in it. A lot of bist in bands I like have a specific tone in their b that I really like during the breakdowns or "chugging parts" here is an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv0Jdk5Nx4Q&feature=related if you listen his b is making a sort of heavier tone. Sorry I cannot describe it very well. Any way how can I achieve this sound? We play in Drop D if that might help. Thanks a bunch.
