Budeprion xl 300mg not working after weeks of taking it?

I started a new doctor about 2 months ago, for very bad stress, sleeping problems, and weight gain. He started me on ampitrpalyn (Sp?) And budeprion XL 150 which he said would also slow down my pk a day smoking. After the first 3 wks I went down to a pk every 2 days and it stopped me from eating all the time. The ampitripalyn for sleeping didn't work at all so he changed it from 10mg to 25mg. And upped the budeprion XL to 300mg to help me stop smoking completely and to help with stress since the 150 helped but not alot. The past 2 weeks I'm back to smoking a ton and am extremely stressed, I'm alot more snappy and get aggravated constantly. At first I thought the mood swings were because I also started taking birth control pills but it seems worse now that the budeorion is 300mg. I want to go back to the doctor but I'm afraid he's just going to keep upping it and I don't really want to be taking anything too strong long term. My last doctor had me on zanxax and I eventually quit taking it because I became forgetful and didn't want to become addicted. I guess my question is do I keep taking it and hope it'll work eventually or stop? Anyone else had problems like this ? Guess I should add I'm 23yrs old.
