I have no lawn and want to grow a lawn now what do?

ok so my ex's old dog like chewed up my back yard and dug holes everywhere so i have no lawn and some mounds of shrubs that are annoying but if i lay seed down do i put fertilizer down with the seed or do i havta wait till i get some gr going and i need a tough gr seed cause i have dogs can anyone reccommend a great gr seed where i can have a great lawn even with dogs thanks for your help
